Yatzy Online – Game rules

 

You can play this game online with your friends, family or random people from all over the world, or you can play it offline competing with our computer player. If you are about to roll the dice for the first time or you just want to jog your memory, in the following you can read the rules for playing Yatzy Online in the three rule sets available: International, Scandinavian and 6 Dice.

International

This game is played by rolling 5 dice in 13 rounds. In every round you can roll the dice maximum three times. After every roll of the dice, the player chooses which dice to keep, and which to roll again. The player can roll again some or all of the dice up to three times on each turn. They can choose to end their turn after one or two rolls as well. The player must fill in the score box with an appropriate score or zero (in case the player doesn’t meet the score requirements) after every turn.  Once a combination has been chosen, it cannot be chosen again later in the game. The game is over when all score boxes are filled. The winner is the player who has highest total score.

The following combinations bring points:

Upper Section:

  • Ones: All dice showing the number 1. Score: Sum of those dice.
  • Twos: All dice showing the number 2. Score: Sum of those dice.
  • Threes: All dice showing the number 3. Score: Sum of those dice.
  • Fours: All dice showing the number 4. Score: Sum of those dice.
  • Fives: All dice showing the number 5. Score: Sum of those dice.
  • Sixes: All dice showing the number 6. Score: Sum of those dice.

If the player scores minimum 63 points (an average of three dice of each number) in the upper section, they will be rewarded with a bonus of 35 points in this section.

Lower Section:

  • Three of a Kind: In case there are three dice showing the same number. Score: Sum of those three dice. (Example: 6, 2, 1 ,6, 6, Score: 18)
  • Four of a Kind: If the player manages to get four dice with the same number. The score will be the sum of those four dice. (Example: 3, 3, 1, 3, 3, Score: 12)
  • Full House: Any set of three same dice combined with any different pair. Score: 25 points. (Example: 4, 4, 4, 5, 5)
  • Small Straight: The player needs 4 dice with consecutive numbers. Score: 30 points. (Three possible combinations: 1-2-3-4; 2-3-4-5 or 3-4-5-6)
  • Large Straight: The player needs 5 dice with consecutive numbers. Score: 40 points. (Two possible combinations: 1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6).
  • Chance: Any combination of dice. Score: Sum of all the dice. Tip: Choose Chance when you have dice with high numbers, but you cannot put them in any combination.
  • Yatzy: In case all five dice are showing the same number. Score: 50 points.

Scandinavian

This variant of the game is similar to International and is played also with 5 dice, with couple of differences in the Lower section. In the Scandinavian version of Yatzy Online the player will play for 15 different dice combinations. In the following you can learn the rules that differ from the ones in the International game and also learn the rules for the newly added rounds:

One Pair: Two dice showing the same number. The points that the player will gain are the sum of those two dice. (Example: 4, 3, 1, 4, 5, Score: 8)
Two Pairs: Two different pairs of dice. Score: Sum of the dice in those two pairs. (Example: 3, 5, 6, 3, 5, Score: 16)
1-2-3-4-5: The combination 1-2-3-4-5. Score: 15 points (sum of all the dice).
2-3-4-5-6: The combination 2-3-4-5-6. Score: 20 points (sum of all the dice).
Full House: Any set of three same dice combined with any different pair. Score: Sum of all the dice. (Example: 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, Score: 28)

Also, there is a difference in the bonus after the Upper Section, where If the player scores minimum 63 points (an average of three of each number), they will be rewarded with a bonus of 50 points.

6 dice

This variant of the game is played with 6 dice and the player is going to play for a 20 dice combinations. In 6 dice the Yatzy combination is replaced with Maxi Yatzy, and also there are added few more combinations to the lower sections that you can learn about in the following:

Three Pairs: Three pairs of dice. Score: Sum of all the dice. (Example: 4, 5, 2, 5, 2, 4, Score: 22)
Five of a Kind: Five dice showing the same number. Score: Sum of those five dice. (Example: 5, 5, 1, 5, 5, 5, Score: 25)
1-2-3-4-5-6: The combination 1-2-3-4-5-6. Score: 21 points (sum of all the dice).
(3+3): Two sets of three dice with the same number (two tripletes). Score: Sum of all the dice. (Example: 6, 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, Score: 30).
(4+2): Any set of four dice showing the same number combined with any different pair. Score: Sum of all dice. (Example: 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, Score: 32)
Maxi Yatzy: In case all six dice are showing the same number. Score: 100 points.

Also, in the upper section score are needed 84 points (an average of four dice of each number) to get the bonus, which in this game is 100 points.
